Election 2024
Once again, law abiding gun owners, and their firearms are being attacked because authorities failed to act in obviously dangerous situations. As far back as 2023, the FBI had the Georgia school shooter on their watchlist. The FBI alerted local authorities who went and interviewed the shooter and his family but did nothing. The parents too did nothing. I don’t know about you, but I’m personally tired of getting all these laws jammed down our throat every time authorities do nothing parents do nothing or others do nothing and somehow it winds up being our fault.
In just slightly under two months there will be an election which will determine the course of this country forever. It won’t be just the next 50 years. It will be forever. There are forces in the United States that hate the United States. I don’t understand what the reason is nor do I much care at this point.
We as gun owners must turn out and vote in this election. I know that we are focusing on the presidential election as we should. Remember the down ballot candidates will be federal, or the state are also affected by your vote, and they need your vote. We gripe constantly about what goes on in Congress and the state legislators. Unless we vote. It doesn’t matter what we gripe about because griping carries no weight.
There are gun owners out there, some of which may be reading this column, that sit on a lily pad like a frog on a warm day. We can’t keep our freedom and keep your children’s freedoms by doing that. You must get off your Lilypad and go register to vote and vote. I am really tired of gun owners who give me 50 million excuses why they didn’t vote and ignore the one reason why they should vote.
There are a lot of people who are there working hard to secure a gun rights every day, every week, every month, every year, year in and year out. They sacrifice their time and their dollars to save the Second amendment for all of us. Gun owners sitting on their lily pads are the problem.
There’s plenty of time to get registered and vote, get an absentee or mail in ballot if you can’t get to the polls. Let’s get out there get registered and vote.
LITIGATION UPDATES
The ISRA is one of the leading parties in a lawsuit known as the Schoenthal et al v. Raoul et al. This was about the Illinois Concealed Carry Act prohibiting carrying on public transportation. The lawsuit was held in the U.S. District Court for Northern Illinois, Rockford. The judge ruled in our favor but did not issue an injunction. The ruling only applies to the plantiffs. That means the law will still be enforced. We expect the state to appeal the decision. We are prepared to answer the state’s appeal.
There have been 647 violent attacks on the CTA so far this year according to the Chicago Tribune. The problem is not only that this is violation of the Second Amendment there is no escape on a moving CTA bus or train. There is also no way of help getting to you. Of course these attacks happen so fast and so close no policemen could get to you even if they were on the train or bus. This ruling only applies to the CTA and Metra. I expect the ruling will be expanded on during the appeal process.
The Protect Illinois Communities Act (PICA), the so-called assault weapon and magazine ban law, will be heard starting on September 16, 2024. Our case is known as Harrel v. Raoul. Our case will be heard simultaneously with the NSSF lawsuit, known as Barnett v. Raoul. This trial is about the merits of the case based on the violation of the Second Amendment. We expect the trial to last four or five days. The judge should issue a ruling in 30 days or less. This case will be appealed to the Seventh Circuit no matter who wins. From there it will be appealed to the Supreme Court of the United States.

September 12, 1995. – The Harlem Globe Trotters lose, breaking their 8829-game winning streak. The Globetrotters we’re in a 11-game exhibition in Vienna, Austria. After years bating the Washington Generals, the Globe Trotters began playing a team made up of retired NBA players led by retired basketball star Kareem Abdul Jabbar. The Globe Trotters lost the third game. The next game was won by the Globetrotters. The retired professional basketball players joked That the next year, they should be sponsored by Tylenol, Excedrin or Advil since their bones ached and they were like a walking pharmaceutical shop.
I was privileged to watch one of the Globetrotters games in person. They were really a hoot and raised a lot of money for good causes.
September 13, 1993 The Israel – Palestine Peace Accords are signed on the south lawn of the White House. That’s certainly worked out. Well, didn’t it?
September 14, 1964 The Kellogg company begins selling their new Pop Tart.
The new snack would sell by the billions. The Pop Tart was an answer to Post Cereals Country Squares who announced it before it was ready to be marketed. Post had bragged about their new snack which they were going to call Country Squares. The problem was they bragged about it before they could introduce it. A group of Kellogg executives went into one of their labs and began working trying to invent a snack and beat Post to the market. A lesson to be learned here is don’t brag before you deliver the goods.
September 15, 1940 In two dog fights over Great Britain British pilots down 56 German fighters depleting the German Air Force to the point where they had to call it quits. The British had won the battle of Britain. The Germans then begin nighttime bombing raids over British cities.
Adolf Hitler later would announce the postponement of “Operation Sea Lion” which was the German plan to invade Great Britain. Hitler then decided to pursue operation Barbarossa which was the code name for the German invasion of the Soviet Union. Not a good idea either.
September 16, 1940 The United States passes the first peace time draft. My father-in-law number two Don Dvary Bloomington decided to beat the draft and enlisted the United States Army. If you enlisted before the draft, they gave you a choice of where you might be stationed. He didn’t like Illinois winters, so he said he wanted to go someplace warm. The United States army obliged him. He spent the summer at Fort Hood, Texas, became part of operation torch and fought in the Sahara Desert, in Sicily in Italy. He spent 427 days on the front lines before he got any R and R. It’s men like Don Dvary who made up the greatest generation.
September 17, 1787 The United States Constitution is signed at the conclusion of the constitutional convention in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. There were 39 delegates present at signing of the of a Constitution.
September 18, 1793 George Washington lays the cornerstone of the United States capital building. It would take nearly 100 years to complete the building before we had a permanent capital Congress and executive branch met in eight different cities.
In 1814 the British invaded Washington DC and burned the White House and tried to burn the Capitol Building. They would’ve gotten the job done had it not been for a rainstorm probably which was part of a category 4 or 5 hurricane. Not only did it put out the fires but it destroyed the supplies of the British Army. The British Army was so devastated that it didn’t want to fight. The soldiers believed they had incurred the wrath of God. They got another lesson at the battle of New Orleans a few months later.
