Emergency Medical Response for Firearms Instructors

Certified by the Illinois Department of Health

Site Code # 080587E1211AC

National Rifle Association (NRA) Approved Course (Approved for 8-hours of instructor continuing education credits)

Endorsed by the following professional organizations:

  • Action Target Training Academy
  • Indiana SWAT Officers Association (ISOA)
  • International LE Educators & Trainers Association (ILEETA)

Course Description: This 1-day training course focuses on providing firearms instructors and RSO’s with the skills and knowledge to develop emergency medical action plans and how to render immediate medical aid to students injured in training.

Firearms instructors have one of the toughest jobs in training. They have to be able to deliver teaching points and student performance objectives during live-fire courses – all while ensuring they are running a safe training environment.

Unfortunately, even in training, injuries occur. The possibility of injuries occurring in training vary from twisted ankles during dynamic courses, to bee stings, hypothermia and heat stroke, to serious traumatic injuries received from projectile splash back or gunshots.

Emergency medical services may not always be readily available or may not have timely access to the training site when injuries occur.  Being able to identify various types of injuries and knowing how to administer emergency medical aid may keep you and your students alive until advanced medical care is available.

Using techniques designed for and proven by the U.S. military, this course introduces firearms instructors to pre-incident planning, preparation, and provision of basic, effective, initial medical care for themselves and others.  Knowing how to identify a serious injury and taking action within the first few minutes of being injured are critical.  Surviving a serious injury before help arrives may be up to you!

The following topics will be covered:

Mental conditioning and survival mindset.
Pathophysiology of blunt trauma injuries
Medical pre-planning.
Tactical combat casualty overview.
