Legislative Efforts

The ISRA is the ONLY gun rights organization based in Illinois with full-time lobbyists in Springfield.

Our team works for us by testifying in committee, meeting with legislators and working diligently when the General Assembly is in an out of session to secure your Second Amendment rights.

Our full-time lobbying team helps us keep track of the gun-related legislation that is under consideration during session of the Illinois General Assembly.

Included in the bill tracking are shell bills, which is legislation that is introduced in a way that allows it to be changed down the road. We watch such bills that are put together by those we see as anti-gun rights to see if they develop into legislation that could threaten those rights. We also track shell bills introduced by those who support our efforts.

With the above in mind, our stated position on any bill is based upon its language at the time of review. Our position on a particular bill may change during the course of the legislative session due to amendments tacked on to it. That is the reason that your ISRA lobbying team is constantly tracking bills during legislative session, to make certain that the bills accurately reflect our position as those who support the Second Amendment.

So be sure to check our watch list regularly as further bills may be added to it on account of amendments inserted past the established introduction deadlines. Remember to refresh the page periodically as to keep up to date as the legislation updates.

Through the vigilance of our lobbyists, we also are able to issue ISRA Legislative Action Alerts concerning pending gun-related legislation. Receiving an ISRA Legislative Committee Action Alert means it’s time to electronically file a witness slip stating your support or opposition to a bill, as stated in the ISRA Action Alert. Click here to view ISRA Action Alerts.

Instructions for filling out a witness slip may be found here on the ISRA website.

Witness slips may be submitted up to the conclusion of a committee hearing. It is recommended that you file witness slips as early as possible in order to make certain that your position becomes a matter of record.

You can follow the status of a bill by scrolling to the bottom of this page. If you should need assistance, a video showing how to use the site may be viewed here.

Our website provides information on how to find phone numbers and addresses for the Springfield and district offices for all members of the Illinois legislature. Use the link here to locate your own state legislators.

And please consider making a donation to the Illinois State Rifle Association Political Victory Fund through clicking on the link here. It’s your support that allows us to maintain our gun rights.

BILL STATUS CHANGES RAPIDLY. PLEASE REMEMBER TO CLICK THE LAST ACTION BUTTONS SHOWN BELOW TO CHECK THE MOST ACCURATE STATUS OF EACH BILL.
