Executive Director’s Message Richard Pearson Legislative Update Representative Rita Mayfield (D-60 Waukegan) has HB1177.  This bill, if passed, would impose a 3.75% tax on all firearms and parts.  This bill is a direct attack on law abiding gun owners.  It is a type of sin tax like what is imposed on gambling and liquor.  A constitutional right is not a sin.  Moreover, in the Bruen et al v New York State Pistol & Rifle Association et al, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled specific taxes on firearms unconstitutional. Of course, the mere fact that something is unconstitutional hasn’t stopped the Illinois General Assembly.  This is all part of the “we'll pass a law and, if you want your rights back, you’ll have to sue for them” attitude by many in Springfield. Executive Director’s Message Richard Pearson From The “You Can't Make This Stuff Up” File In Miami, Florida, two would-be robbers burst though the door of a grocery store, brandishing pistols and scaring everyone. Suddenly, shots broke out and screaming and wailing filled the scene.  The boss checked himself but found no holes or leaks.  The same was true of the employees and customers.  The would-be robbers weren’t so lucky.  It seems one of the “not ready for prime time” miscreants accidentally shot his partner. The partner then returned the favor. The police and ambulances arrived and hauled the under-rehearsed pair away. It is rumored that several police officers were treated for pleurisy-like symptoms caused by excessive laughter. Executive Director’s Message Richard Pearson New Sheriffs In Town..... The confirmation of Kash Patel as FBI director, followed by the appointment of Dan Bongino as FBI Deputy Director, bodes well for the Second Amendment.  One of Patel's first acts was to get rid of Pam Hicks as Chief Counsel for the ATF.  She was a proud anti-firearms advocate and part of the Biden anti-gun “machine”.  I expect Trump to appoint a pro-Constitution Chief Counsel for the ATF. Both the FBI and the ATF have been weaponized against the citizens of the United States. Not only firearm owners, but also, those who want to protest or even question what their local school board might be doing wound up in the FBI's sights.  Law abiding citizens became the focus of FBI investigations while terrorists were coming across the our borders in droves.  What is especially frustrating has been seeing those in charge actually...
