Thursday Bulletin – May 14, 2026 Executive Director's Message Richard Pearson Protecting the Second Amendment Is An Ongoing Fight   I am totally happy the Department of Justice (DOJ) is going to sue Colorado over the so called "Assault Weapons" ban.  2 days later, the same DOJ also filed suit against the City of Denver over its own weapon ban.  I believe our case, the NSSF case, and the rest of the cases that are bogged down in the Seventh Circuit, was one of the reasons the DOJ is suing Colorado.  The cases in the Seventh Circuit or, at least, the pile of evidence supporting our position, will eventually make it to the Supreme Court of the United States.   In Connecticut, their version of the "Convertible Pistol" or GLOCK Bill has reached Governor Ned Lamont's desk.  He will undoubtedly sign it.  Of course, the problem is that it not...

Thursday Bulletin – May 7, 2026 Executive Director's Message Richard Pearson   It's A Great Time To Visit The ISRA Range For Classes, Leagues, Special Events And More! Nice weather seems to be breaking out and, with it, the only known cure for "Cabin Fever" which is to get out of the house and do some shooting!  If you don't have a range in your back yard, you should check with a local shooting range in your area.  Many ranges have summer leagues.  These are always a good choice in which to take part. The ISRA Range is no exception, offering 18 different shooting leagues.  Some are weekly and some are monthly, and all of them are fun.  There is no better place for fun and camaraderie while you improve on your marksmanship skills. Before I get into some current activities, I would like to let you all know that,...

Thursday Bulletin – April 30, 2026 Executive Director's Message Richard Pearson   When I Was A Kid.....   When I was 10 years old, I contracted a rare condition known as Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, which is commonly known simply as Perthes disease. The local doctor did not know what was wrong. What happens to people who get this nasty disease is that the artery in one or both of the legs gets blocked causing the ball on top of the femur to die and become flat.  It is painful.  Just as painful is the fact that I had to wear a women's girdle to school because the doctor thought it was a muscle problem.  It was tough in the locker room until they figured out that it didn't help and, finally, I got rid of the girdle.  I was confined to bed for eight weeks before I moved on to crutches...

Our Mission

ISRA Supports Illinois Firearm Owners with Education, Training, Litigation and Legislation to PROTECT your 2nd Amendment Rights

As we stand at the threshold of our second century, we continue to promote marksmanship and gun safety. At the same time, our role is widening beyond our Founders’ wildest dreams. Politicians, whose actions over 200 years ago formed us for the protection of the United States, now betray us and the ideals that made this country great.

Hunters are attacked by animal rights activists – and the law protects the activists.

Public hunting lands, purchased by special taxes imposed on hunters, are now closed to those same hunters.

Mayors and other politicians whose policies have caused segments of our society to go out of control blame gun owners for their failures.

Radical anti-gun organizations partnering with major news media seek to make gun ownership, sport shooting, hunting, collecting, and self-defense illegal or impossible.

Education And Training

ISRA is dedicated to educating children and adults on the safe and proper use of guns.

The mission of the ISRA Academy is to promote firearm safety and excellence in marksmanship by providing training and other educational opportunities to all law-abiding gun owners in Illinois.

In 1903, the year of inception of ISRA, the Education & Training Committee was formed with the sole purpose of providing civilians an opportunity to learn and practice shooting skills so they would become proficient marksmen if later called on to serve in the U.S. military. Over the years the activities of the Committee were expanded to include education and training of youth and women in all types of shooting sports.
