Thursday Bulletin – January 15th, 2025 Executive Director's Message Richard Pearson Safe Storage of Firearms Act By Ed Sullivan, ISRA Lobbyist The Safe Storage of Firearms Act, designated as Public Act 101-0031, is now fully implemented.  Under this legislation, firearm owners are required to secure their firearms in a safe storage device if certain individuals are present on their premises.  The term "premises" is defined broadly as any location under a person’s control, including homes, businesses, or vehicles.  Therefore, a safe storage device is necessary for these areas unless the firearm is carried by the owner. The law specifies three categories of individuals who trigger the safe storage requirement: persons under eighteen years of age, individuals considered "at-risk," and those prohibited from owning firearms.  An “at-risk” individual is defined as someone whose statements or behavior suggest to a reasonable observer that they may be at risk of attempting suicide or...

Thursday Bulletin – January 8th, 2025 Executive Director's Message Richard Pearson Legislative ALERT!! Springfield is at it again!  The RIFL Act is their latest gun-grabber, sleight-of-hand scam.  “We’re not banning guns,” they say, while quietly jacking up fees and red tape to price out law-abiding citizens from our 2A rights.   The following is commentary by Ed Sullivan, our ISRA Lobbyist..... Over the past two decades, my work at the Capitol has given me a front-row seat to the evolving tactics of the General Assembly. Their creativity in imposing taxes, instituting regulations, and challenging Second Amendment protections never ceases to amaze me.  Because of this, I have vowed never to utter the words, “I’ve seen it all.”  For gun owners, the ongoing struggle to protect Second Amendment rights has been especially pronounced during the Pritzker administration, with the most recent threat emerging in the form of HB 3320 and SB2279...

Thursday Bulletin – January 1st, 2025 Executive Director's Message Richard Pearson Happy New Year   from the ISRA family to you and yours! We are on the cusp of 2025 and 2026.  More importantly we are entering the year of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the birth of the United States of America. I am proud to be living in this time, proud of the United States of America and proud to be a citizen of the good old USA.  There are those who don't feel that way.  To them I say get out and don't come back.  Nothing is stopping you from leaving. You can fly out, drive out, walk out, swim out, take a train or boat out.  You have lots of choices. In the 250th year of our precious republic I expect some victories but I also expect some vicious attacks. I certainly believe...

Our Mission

ISRA Supports Illinois Firearm Owners with Education, Training, Litigation and Legislation to PROTECT your 2nd Amendment Rights

As we stand at the threshold of our second century, we continue to promote marksmanship and gun safety. At the same time, our role is widening beyond our Founders’ wildest dreams. Politicians, whose actions over 200 years ago formed us for the protection of the United States, now betray us and the ideals that made this country great.

Hunters are attacked by animal rights activists – and the law protects the activists.

Public hunting lands, purchased by special taxes imposed on hunters, are now closed to those same hunters.

Mayors and other politicians whose policies have caused segments of our society to go out of control blame gun owners for their failures.

Radical anti-gun organizations partnering with major news media seek to make gun ownership, sport shooting, hunting, collecting, and self-defense illegal or impossible.

Education And Training

ISRA is dedicated to educating children and adults on the safe and proper use of guns.

The mission of the ISRA Academy is to promote firearm safety and excellence in marksmanship by providing training and other educational opportunities to all law-abiding gun owners in Illinois.

In 1903, the year of inception of ISRA, the Education & Training Committee was formed with the sole purpose of providing civilians an opportunity to learn and practice shooting skills so they would become proficient marksmen if later called on to serve in the U.S. military. Over the years the activities of the Committee were expanded to include education and training of youth and women in all types of shooting sports.
