Often in the past and probably in the future, somebody is going to try and bring up legislation saying you can only buy one gun a month. They keep hammering that this law is not an infringement on the 2nd Amendment, because you still can buy a gun.
This legislation is so silly. The same reason I might buy two computers in one month is because I need them for two different reasons. I also may need two sets of golf clubs a month because of certain events I want to participate in. In the wording of these bills a "transfer" would also be considered a buy. Some people say isn't 12 guns a year enough? That's not the point. The point here is the point of sale! I would like to give you examples of how this would infringe on your 2nd Amendment right very seriously.
1. I am not a criminal and I resent being treated as one.
2. I may buy a firearm and then decide I don't really like it and want to trade it in for a different one - sorry, wait 'til next month!
3. I may also buy a gun and it malfunctions. Now I want the dealer to replace it - sorry, wait 'til next month!
4. I may want to buy a pair of matched pistols. They can only be sold together because of serial number's and the dealer won't sell them any other way...forget this deal!
5. I am a collector and there is a major auction coming up with a lot of firearms - I can only buy one!
6. There may be a liquidation sale from someone's estate with a lot of firearms - sorry, can only get one!
7. I own a number of firearms and would like to give them to a family member, because I have a short time to live - sorry, only over a period of time!
8. I have a fire in my home and most of my guns were destroyed in the fire. Now I want to replace them. It could take a year or more to do it!
9. I want to set up a shooting gallery at the local fair. I need 8 rifles to do it. Sorry, out of luck!
10. I give a dealer six guns to sell on consignment and after a while, decide I want them back. Sorry, over six months you can get them!
11. There is a cowboy action shoot coming up next month that I want to participate in. I need to buy 3 guns - pistol, rifle, shotgun. No way will I be able to make the match!
12. I was burglarized and want to replace my guns - again, maybe over a year or so!
I could go on with plenty more examples. The point is don't tell me that this law would not infringe on my right!
I use different guns for different shots just like golf clubs. I need to buy the firearms that I need to participate in the activities I want to. Again I am not a felon and I should be able to exercise my right according to the U.S. Constitution.
Meanwhile, in the back alleys the criminal is buying three or four guns in a day, and without even a background check or having to wait one or three days like I would!
Reasonable regulation of firearms means getting checked out instantly that you are not a felon or have any reason that you would not be allowed a firearm. After that I should be able to walk out with the gun I want to purchase! As American citizens we have to stand up to this nonsense and elect people that protect our rights.
So let's cut through the rhetoric and the misconceptions. This type of legislation definitely is wrong and a great infringement on a law-abiding citizen!
