During the warm months I run two women’s day shoots at the range. I have other
Range officers that help me with these events. There is a Range Officer with
each woman, helping and instructing, so it’s like having a personal trainer with
you. We take 10 women for each class, pistol and shotgun.
The last class that we held was in May. Last year we had a hard time filling the
two classes. This May was unbelievable. I almost had to turn applicants away. I
received a total of 28 women that took the class.
Women find that shooting can be very relaxing and they enjoy the camaraderie of
sharing the sport with other women. The comment sheets that I got back were just
loaded with words of how much fun it was.
The way I run the event is that we supply everything the ladies need to shoot,
which includes guns, ammo, eye and ear protection. This allows women to try the
sport before they have to put out the expense of buying a gun first. All they
have to do is show up and we even provide lunch too.
I have had so many requests for women to learn shotgun that I will be running an
event Aug. 8th for 30 women at Bristol shotgun range. I am so happy to see more
women taking an interest and finding out how much fun shooting guns can be.
There is an exhilarating feeling when you see that clay pigeon break into
pieces.
Some of the women are repeats, but we also get a lot of first timers. These are
the ones we really get enthused about instructing. When it’s all over, they are
probably the most excited ones, being it’s their first time. They bubble all
over. Ladies, if you haven’t tried the sport of shooting, let me encourage you
to take a stab at it. I believe you too will be very excited when it’s over!
