Conceal Carry

by Don Bekeleski

A decision has been made by the Supreme Court that we as Americans have the right to own firearms for protection! My disappointment with it is that it was not a 9 to 0 vote; instead it was 5 to 4. How can an American sitting as a judge on the bench of that court say the 2nd Amendment does not apply to every American everywhere? It is the Constitution and Bill of Rights for the entire nation, not just certain sections.

If we look back to the revolution against England which established our independence and freedom as a new country, would not our leaders want our citizens armed to defend that new found freedom against all oppression, including that of our own government? If it refers to only the government militia having arms, then how are we to defend ourselves against tyranny if only the government has the arms? RIDICULOUS!

Patrick Henry (1788) "The great object is, that every man be armed ... every one who is able may have a gun."

George Mason (1788) "... to disarm the people - that was the best and most effectual way to enslave them."

Samuel Adams (1789) "And that the said Constitution be never construed to authorize Congress ... to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms..."

Richard Henry Lee (1788) "Whereas, to preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them..."

(All emphasis mine.)

Now I ask you, do those judges not understand the English language? It says that Congress shall not construe (twist the meaning of) the Constitution to prevent the people from having their own arms!! Do you get it yet judges and politicians? How can it mean anything else except what it says? You swear to uphold the Constitution! Why then do you not hold these quotations as self-evident?

I'm sure I could ask a freshman in high school what these mean and I guarantee you he will tell me the opposite of what those four judges voted. If I tell you that blue is blue and show it to you - why would you tell me it's orange? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to decipher the meaning of these quotations!

Which now brings me to conceal carry. In the days that these quotations were written everyone went everywhere with their gun. No one left home without it. If someone used that firearm in a way not conducive to a law abiding manner it was dealt with, but no one cried to disarm the others because someone committed a felony with a firearm!

If someone came to Thomas Jefferson and told him to turn in his firearms because we are having some murders in the area and it would be safer if all firearms were banned from private hands, I'm sure he would answer similar to the late Charlton Heston and say, "From my cold dead hands!"

Cesare Beccaria in 1764 said, "... an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." So in plain English he is saying don't disarm the people making them easy targets for assailants! How can anyone get any other meaning out of this?

Noah Webster (1787) "The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops..." Gee, all the people of America are armed! So how can one say the 2nd Amendment only applies to government troops? Duh?

The time has come in the state of Illinois that conceal carry becomes law for its citizens! It's time for the press (just like in Colonial times) to promote the Constitution and the defending of the people to always bear arms. If a newspaper in Colonial times wrote articles to remove the 2nd Amendment and take the peoples arms away, what do you think would happen?

I am saying it's time for the press to stand up and defend the 2nd Amendment as written and endorse the carrying of arms by the people for self protection. It is law in 48 other states. If it created a massive problem, maybe we would have to rework the conceal carry law. However, assault crime has gone down tremendously. What the Founding Fathers have said has proven to be true overwhelmingly. Statistics bear this out.

So taking all this logic into account and seeing that the bearing of arms by law abiding people is NOT a problem anywhere in the United States. only confirms the reason to arm the people in this state. The time of false rhetoric is over. The time of telling the truth is here!

CONCEAL CARRY NOW!!!!!
